Our name and overall philosophy is inspired by a lifetime love for rowing crew, specifically the middle positions on the boat. Known as the “engine room,” the middle four seats are positioned on the widest and heaviest part of the shell, which makes it the sturdiest. So when the inevitable bumps or small movements happen, they do not impact the overall balance and performance of the boat. The rowers in this position must be consistent in producing power for the boat. All of which applies to what we do, how we work, and how we add value for our clients.
It’s a team sport, so everyone on the team has to be on the same page and rowing in the same direction. If your boat is full of the strongest athletes but no one is working together, you will not be maximizing their strengths. It’s about depending on one another to bring their best, every race, every time. It’s an apt metaphor for our business and we infuse the notion of “perfect orchestration” into everything we do.

Engine Room was founded in 2014 by Dennis Egen. Dennis has enjoyed success over the years creating and leading the technology vision for agencies building complex, secure, data driven marketing applications for clients such as Wawa, JPMorgan Chase, Aqua America, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Morgan Stanley, Ogilvy, Publicis, Barclays and many more. All of these applications were data driven and more than simply brochure- ware sites. Some applications had tens of millions of customer records containing PI (Personal Information), marketing data (segmentation, funnel, analytics) and many hooks to outside systems (SAML, SSO, etc.). In addition to his day job running Engine Room, Dennis also teaches Software Engineering and Network Security at Rutgers University. Dennis has a B.S. and M.S. in computer science.
SVP OF TECHNOLOGY & INFORMATION SECURITY
Ian has a wide range of information security and application development experience across multiple lines of business. His 10+ years of experience includes consulting with large enterprise clients such as Morgan Stanley, Prudential, Wawa, JP Morgan Chase, and Barclays. He is a proven technical and security consultant offering reliability and proficiency in the management and design of secure architecture and applications. An engaging team player, Ian is able to collaborate, build consensus and clearly articulate technical concepts to executive management. Core skills include: Cloud architecture, IT Governance, Data classification and data privacy (GDPR/CCPA), Regulatory compliance (ISO/PCI/HIPAA) and Secure SDLC. In 2014 Ian graduated from the University of Delaware with an M.S. in Management Information Systems. In 2019 he joined Rutgers University as an Adjunct Faculty member, teaching undergraduate and graduate level Cloud Computing classes.
SVP OF BUSINESS SOLUTIONS AND DELIVERY
Joann brings over 20 years of experience leading award-winning teams in web and digital media delivery. A consummate problem solver and collaborator, Joann drives solutions that balance schedule and budget while always keeping the overall business objectives in mind. Joann is skilled in using both Agile and Waterfall project methodologies as she holds PMP and CSM certifications. From writing functional specifications to leading quality assurance, Joann adds a strong technology background to her PM expertise. Earlier in her career, she spent time in Silicon Valley working at several highly successful technology start-ups. She tries to make time to travel the world and recently added the Cayman Islands to the dozens of stamps in her passport. Joann graduated from Cornell with a BS in Business Management and Marketing.
SVP OF SALES AND MARKETING
With 20+ years of sales and operations management success in various sectors, including managed recovery, digital-media, and insurance, the thread that runs through John’s career, is his desire and ability to connect with and motivate others to achieve business goals. John has worked with businesses of various sizes, political leaders, sports luminaries, educators, and media personalities to collaborate on various business and community projects. Together, they share common goals for improving the economic landscape and enabling the health of our community through strategic growth and environmentally sustainable solutions. John earned dual master’s degrees in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania, and Technology and Education from Temple University, coupled with certifications in project management (PMP) and instructional technology. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
As chief financial officer (CFO), Rayce Rollins operates at the intersection of all of the company’s data flows (sales, operations, finance etc). He adds value by transforming data into useful information. Rayce is responsible for all of the company’s financial functions, including accounting, audit, treasury, corporate finance and investor relations. His career spans more than 10 years of varied experience in financial management, business leadership and corporate strategy.
